Carlac Urges Customers To Review Their Isocyanate Policies Ahead Of New Legislation

In line with new REACH legislation, leading distributor, Carlac urges bodyshop owners and managers to review their di-isocyanate training procedures and policies ahead of updated guidelines that are now in force.

The new guidelines for the safe use of isocyanates require industrial and professional users of products in concentrations ≥ 0.1% by weight must have had adequate training for its safe use from 24 August 2023. Going forward, specific products containing this substance will bear a notice outlining the necessary training and risks.

"Isocyanates pose the largest risks to technicians' health on the shop floor. Here at Carlac, we pride ourselves on looking after our experts who are out in the field supporting our customers as well as the well-being and safety of others." Comments Neil Firth, Managing Director at Carlac.

"Although the new updates aren't too much of a concern for our sector, as we’ve been following these strict guidelines for many years, we believe it's an ideal opportunity for bodyshops to review training, and policies to ensure their team are aware of the risks and remain safe around isocyanates.

“To support this, alongside our Health & Safety advisor, we have identified two solutions for bodyshops managers and owner to review. Firstly, is our di-isocyanate toolkit that refreshes minds and aids in the continued protection of people in our industry from this harmful chemical. And secondly, is the free online training and resources available through the Safe Use and Handling of Di-isocyanates Trainings website".

The website has been devised by leading industry associations the ISOPA and ALIPA. This online portal is an easy and accessible training platform for those working with di-isocyanate. Check it out here, www.safeusediisocyanates.eu
